Festival Spring in Full Swing

// 2025-05-08

While waiting for premieres in Kraków, we’ve set off on some international adventures. So, which screens did our films land on this time?

🇺🇸 Two films already well-known to many of you have firmly established themselves in the United States – Here For You by Cezary Orłowski and From you by Jędrzej Gorski were screened at the Indy Film Fest in Indianapolis. Now that’s what we call setting sail on the open seas!

🇮🇹 Czarek Orłowski’s Here For You also made its way to Sicily, to the Palermo Independent International Film Festival. And it returned from Palermo with honors – winning the award for Best Short Film!

 🇵🇹 Podorozhnyk (Plantain) is also heading to warmer climates. Between May 12 and 17, it will be shown at the Entre Curtas festival in Portugal. This marks the film’s second Portuguese screening, following its showing in Lisbon. Congratulations to the director, Maryna Suslovets, and the entire team!

🇷🇸 In mid-May, Prima ultima luna (The First Last Month) by Moldovan director Elena Vatamanu-Mărgineanu, a recent graduate of our international cinematography program, is heading to Serbia for the Female Characters Film Fest in Belgrade. Elena will personally attend the screening to present her film to the audience. Thank you for representing WSF abroad!

🇹🇭  Thanks to collaboration with the Polish Embassy in Taipei, we’ll present three of our films in Thailand during the 2025 European Union Film Festival. Screenings of Here For You by Cezary Orłowski, Rouge by Sophie Horry, and The Dresses by Tadeusz Łysiak will represent our country at the festival – and celebrate the 20th anniversary of our School! 🎉

🇧🇬 Hot news – at the end of June, Sophie Horry’s Rouge will be screened at the Oscar-qualifying IN THE PALACE festival in Bulgaria! The film will be featured in the student section. This is yet another great achievement for Sophie, whose film was also screened last year in Gdynia. Congratulations!

🇵🇱 And finally, back to Poland – five of our films have made it into the official selection of the National Independent Film Competition OKFA! Red, Leben, Son of Fortune, Hushes and Phonics, and In My Hands – titles we know and love. Congratulations to the filmmakers – Sophie Horry, Ania Płonka, Dominik Mirecki, Piotr K. Kamiński, and Igor Kuna – we’ll see you in June in Konin.

Now it's time for the awards! Who brought home laurels from April festivals?

Feel no fear with me (dir. Monika Klimkiewicz-Dudziec) not only premiered at the Prague Film Festival but also won the Best Student Short award! Congratulations on a fruitful debut!

💎

Mine (dir. Kaja Sajdak) was honored with the Best Student Short award at the Hollywood Shortfest in Los Angeles! Next stop – Hollywood Boulevard! 🌇

We’re conquering internationally, but we also triumphed at our home festival in Września! Here are the awards we won at Prowincjonalia:

🧝 Audience Award "Jańcio Wodnik" for Jan Ziewiecki for the short documentary Mom
🧝 Audience Award "Jańcio Wodnik" for Jędrzej Gorski for the short fiction film From you
🧝 Youth Jury Award "Jańcio Wodnik of Tomorrow" for Piotr Krzysztof Kamiński for the short fiction film Hushes and Phonics
